Combe Family Missionary Update
June 15, 2008
| Family
News: Family life with 3 children is a little bit different than 5
children. Please continue to pray for our son, Jasper, and daughter,
Hannah. The decrease in family members has allowed us to huddle more
and spend more time together. Lesson learned: Spend more time with
your children; they will soon be gone. Ministry News: Before leaving the states, I took our van for basic maintenance in Harlingen, TX to Cesar Zavala. He is a dear Christian friend who takes care of our van and keeps it in tiptop shape. He is shown in the driver’s seat while his crew looks on. He is one of the main reasons that our 16-year-old van with over 100,000 miles is still running great. Thank you Cesar! As I stated in our last update, a new law in Mexico allows only vehicles that are 1998 or newer to be registered in Mexico. We need a newer van to replace our 1992 model so as to register it with Mexican plates. Please pray about this matter. On our return trip to Mexico, we went through Monterrey, Mexico to pick up over 200 BEAMS Bibles from Missionary Carrie Suhl and her son, Caleb. While there, we were given a tour of the property of the Iglesia Bautista Monte Hebron, where Dr. Tommy Ashcraft is veteran missionary. Receiving the Bibles and touring the property was a blessing but an unexpected blessing was the Peavey Synthesizer, Speaker and microphone that they gave us. We send a big “THANK YOU” to the Suhl Family. It was the second time we had been through Monterrey since coming to the mission field almost 3 years ago. My how time flies when you are having fun. Upon our return, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the Iglesia Bautista Monte Calvario had a Welcome Back Pastor and Family Sunday. It came complete with a delicious meal, banner and many gave us a heartfelt “We Missed You”. Knowing that the folks we have reached with the Gospel appreciate our investment and love makes bringing the Word of God to one of the largest cities in the world well worth it. The tent that keeps the sun out of our eyes and from burning our heads does not seem to do very well with the heavy rain we have been experiencing. This last Sunday night the water came down by the bucket full. We are looking for some roofing panels to put up in the front yard of the yard where we are meeting. We have been told that a major construction company here will donate the material for this need. The cost of such a roof would normally be $3,000.00. I will believe it when I see it. This would, of course, make our auditorium more user friendly and much more importantly keep the water out. We hope to put up this roof in the next month. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
COULD ONE THOUSAND TO GIVE A HUNDRED FOR THE MILLIONS?
We are no longer able to increase our auditorium area and are now beginning to direct our attention to a piece of property that is located about ¼ mile from the home where we are meeting. It costs approximately $3,500.00 Mexican pesos per square meter. Which is approximately $100.00 American dollars per square foot. We have a unique opportunity to “buy
a piece of the rock in one of the world’s largest blocks”.
That’s why we are asking one thousand Christians to help us by giving
$100.00 each for a piece of property in one of the more fruitful areas
in the world. Some folks have asked, “Could we give more than
$100.00?” Yes. You may give as much as you like. The $100.00 amount
is a way for us to get as many folks involved and to measure our
progress. My question is, “How many square feet could you cover?”
Please send any donations to IBWM, c/o Missionary David Combe, 2200 W.
Loop 281, Longview, TX 75604. Please make any checks to IBWM and put
Property/Building in the “for” space. Thank you ahead of time. Please help us with this great need. It is very disappointing to see false religions with their gothic cathedrals and gorgeous temples while the Word of God dwells underneath a tent. I believe I know how King David felt when he mentioned that he dwelt in a home of cedar but the Lord dwelt under a tent. This would be a testimony to the Word of God and to Christians everywhere. I assure you we are doing everything we can to be in the position for the Lord to bless our efforts. Your help would increase our effectiveness in one of more receptive areas of the world.
We love you from Mexico City,
Missionary David Combe
